Esther Rozendaal

Esther researches the digital resilience of young people. She aims to gain insights that can help young people make the best use of the opportunities offered by digital media, while guarding against its risks.

Esther Rozendaal is an Associate professor of Communication and Behavioural Change in the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences at the Erasmus University, the Netherlands. Her research focuses in large part on how children can be empowered to deal with advertising and media in a responsible, autonomous, and conscious manner. In addition to her research and educational activities, Esther focuses on bridging the academy-society divide. With academic partner Moniek Buijzen she initiated Bitescience.com.

 

Media literacy: how do we become more aware of how we deal with media?

What does youth's increasing media use mean for their well-being? What positive effects can this media use have? And how do we combat the digital divide? Movez Lab participates in the Gravitation programme about the Algorithmic Society

The algorithmic society (ALGOSOC) consortium receives the Gravitation Grant for research on safeguarding public values and human rights in the development of (semi-)automated processes, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). Moniek and Esther from the Movez Lab are part of ALGOSOC and are pleased with this opportunity for research and multidisciplinary collaboration.
