The Movez Network is an open innovation network focusing on the the well-being and digital media use of youth. The network brings together research, education, and society in a 'blended stakeholder science' approach. Our aim is to find answers to society's questions from different perspectives. To do so, we seek broad collaboration with all relevant parties, with youth at the center The Movez Network is rooted in the Erasmus University Rotterdam

Erasmus Movez Lab

The Movez Lab at Erasmus University Rotterdam is at the core of the Movez Network. Together with the partners of the Movez Network, the Movez team conducts academic research on the themes of youth, well-being and digital media. Bitescience

Bitescience makes scientific knowledge accessible and attractive for professionals involved with communication and media, by translating the latest, most relevant, and highest quality academic insights into bite-size portions.

The Dutch Media Literacy Network

The Dutch media literacy network aims to stimulate media literacy among all the citizens in the Netherlands. We have a long-term societal partnership with Netwerk Mediawijsheid, contributing to the online knowledge dissemination, the national media literacy week, the media literacy knowledge day, and the scientific board.

NICAM – Kijkwijzer

We have a long-term collaboration with the Dutch Institute for Classification of Audiovisual Media (Nederlands Instituut voor Classificatie van Audiovisuele Media, NICAM), focusing specifically on Kijkwijzer, which is a classification for films, television shows, and television programs.

SYNC lab

We collaborate with different researchers from the SYNC Lab, both when it comes to general knowledge exchange, as well as in concrete projects, such as the Unplugged project. In the Unplugged project, the MediaMovez team is partnering up with Yara Toenders and Kayla Green to study the effects of the smartphone ban at high schools.

CAPRI - AmsterdamUMC

CAPRI focuses on scientific research that contributes to optimal opportunities for youth to grow up healthy and happy; from -9 months to 19 years. Movez lab collaborates the researchers of CAPRI in the field of general knowledge exchange. Several times a year Movez organizes knowledge exchange afternoons, where we discuss relevant topics in an interactive way.

ErasmusX

ErasmusX focuses on helping Erasmus University students to develop themselves in the best way they can, so they are prepared to meet the ever-changing demands of the future. Because this future is constantly changing, they are looking for ways in which education should adapt and innovate so it can continue to valuably impact student lives and serve as a great launch platform for their future careers.

NeFCA

At the Netherlands and Flanders Communication Association (NeFCA), we exchange knowledge and collaborate with other researchers. During the annual conference, we share our latest research and get inspiration in the field of communication science.

Erasmus Initiative Societal Impact of AI (AiPact)

This Erasmus Initiative focuses on innovative and transdisciplinary research and education in AI, with society at its core. It does so by bringing AI closer to people. Stakeholders jointly determine the frameworks for the use of AI in ways that benefit individuals and society. AiPact is closely connected to the Movez Lab and AICON through the research theme AiMovez.

Healthy Start

The convergence programme Healthy Start is a collaboration between Erasmus University, Erasmus MC, and TU Delft. In the Movez Network, we mostly work together on “Ambition 6,” which focuses on increasing the engagement and participation of (unheard) youth in society.

AICON

AICON is a collective of scientists, students, artists, organisations and citizens. In co-creation, we develop artistic interventions workshops, exhibitions and publications to explore the integration of AI into society.

Team Kallenbach

Team Kallenbach operates at the intersection of art and society. They are co-initiators, programme managers and curators of the transdisciplinary AICON movement, in collaboration with, among others, Movez and AiPact researchers. In co-creation, we develop artistic interventions workshops, exhibitions and publications to explore the integration of AI into society.

Maarten Bel

Artist Maarten Bel, together with Movez Lab researcher David Blok, the science museum NEMO, and Team AICON, developed the theatre programme Train the AI Machine. During the theatre workshops, children and their parents or guardians discover how the mysterious AI machine works. By combining art and science, the programme aims to unravel the phenomenon step by step. Also, Maarten cocreated the Recharge room at the international AlgoSoc conference.

NEMO

Wetenschapsmuseum NEMO en AICON ontwikkelden samen met kunstenaar Maarten Bel en Movez Lab onderzoeker David Blok de hilarische en leerzame theatervoorstelling "Ontrafel de AI machine." De voorstelling wordt ook gehouden op de Amsterdamse Dag van de Wetenschap en het Rotterdamse Brugklasfestival.

VONK - Municipality of Rotterdam

Rotterdam Innovation Center VONK is an open learning environment by and for innovators. They explore, together with their innovation network, the implications of technological developments for the city. VONK collaborates with AICON (AiMovez) and hosted the AICON LAB exhibition and workshops.

Peim van der Sloot

Artist Peim van der Sloot developed several artworks within the AICON movement, in cocreation with city residents, students, and scientists. The works such as Portraits of the City, Teardrops in the Rain, and Future Jobs address the human-AI relationship. They were cocreated and exhibited at the Hefhouse, De Doelen, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and VONK, municipality of Rotterdam.

Julia Luteijn

Artist Julia Luteijn contributed several artworks within the AICON movement, some in cocreation with city residents, students, and scientists. Works such as Stadsgezichten, Kilo Girls, and For the Love of the World address the complex relationship between humans, society and AI. The works were co-designed and/or presented at the Hefhouse, Felix Meritis, and VONK/municipality of Rotterdam.

HefHouse

HefHouse is an inspiring meeting place in Rotterdam South, next to De Hef and Hefpark, where various partners of the Movez Network come together to share ideas, collaborate, and learn from one another. With support from the Municipality of Rotterdam and Erasmus University, this accessible space for education, creativity, and community has been established, with talent development and connection at its core.

You!nG

In the MediaMovez project, we work together with You!nG, a company led by Bianca Boender. You!nG aims to empower children and youth by developing tools, methods and training, and coaching for professionals in the wellbeing, health and education sector. With their practical knowledge, they contribute mainly to the Healthy Start Sprint Project ‘Let’s Movez Together’, in which we develop a tool for child-participation in the context of the development of (digital) resilience interventions

Edux – Digitalig

We have a long-term societal partnership with Edux, focusing especially on their Digitalig program. With Digitalig, Edux aims to enable professionals to stimulate digital literacy among children. We take on the role of an advisory board and have, among other things, advised them on one of their media literacy interventions. Our collaboration is focused on continuous knowledge exchange, for which we have also hosted a keynote and workshop during their Digitalig event.

AlgoSoc

Within the AlgoSoc consortium, five Dutch universities are researching public values in automated decision-making over a period of 10 years. Within the AiMovez theme, we focus on health and well-being.

eur student well-being

The EUR Student Well-being Programme aims to support students throughout their university lives. Movez researcher Tonka Milošević, through the AlgoSoc project, collaborates with Student Well-being to examine how young people experience public values the programme’s digital environment.

Chance to Influence

Chance to Influence aims to empower young people and develop their talents so that they can play a positive role in society on the longer term. By working with young people on personal goals, they are empowered and can discover their talents in a positive way.

Talentzskool

Talentzskool aims to effectively contribute to talent development, poverty alleviation, breaking social isolation and social exclusion among children and families. Increasing opportunities promotes the abilities of children and families and lays the foundation for a bright future.

OurFeedOurFuture

OurFeefOurFuture is an initiative of Meta and ThinkYoung, a youth participation organization. Esther Rozendaal has contributed to their initiative through a webinar on empowering parents and ensuring safe online experiences for teens (2023), and through a Q&A published online and in a booklet. At Meta, Chiara de Jong has provided scientific input during a Youth Design Jam (2023) and the whole team is involved as youth and media experts.

BRICS lab

BRICS lab researches how we can ensure that people start living healthier lives and remain healthy. Their research aims to have a positive lasting impact on science and the society. To meet this goal, they combine psychology, child and family studies with other disciplines such as sociology, health sciences and public administration. This approach allows for inclusion of underrepresented groups.

ECDA

ECDA facilitates applied research and active learning in the fields of AI, data and digitization, making it tangible by creating engaging digital experiences through immersive technology, such as VR and AR. Movez lab is the expert practice group for AI, Digital Communication and Behavioural Change within ECDA.

The Dutch Research Council (Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek) co-finances the three Movez research themes, with competitive research grants including a Vidi, Vici and Gravitation Grant.

RIVM

The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment is committed to promoting a healthy population and a sustainable, safe, and healthy living environment for current and future generations. It does this by linking science to practice and policy. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Movez Lab collaborated with the RIVM’s Behavioural Unit, focusing on the behaviour and well-being of young people.
