Youth as co-researchers: What does your online world look like?

Youth are not research objects but true co-researchers. Therefore, Movez Lab researcher Ying Chuck goes to primary and secondary schools to learn with your peers about their online world and how to interact with media in a fun and safe way. "By including youth in the research, we can learn together about their experiences with online media. This way, we as researchers can better understand what they do online and come up with solutions to problems that are important to them" says Ying. Your opinions are important, which is why we listen carefully to what the youth tells us.

Getting creative

The pupils go all out in the creative tasks they do in the MediaMovez lessons. During the lessons, they ....

  1. Make mind maps about their online world
  2. Brainstorm about advantages and disadvantages of what they do online
  3. Think of actions to counteract and prevent these disadvantages
  4. Make posters about their action and explain it step by step
  5. Proudly present their posters to their classmates

The pupils found the tasks educational, "I learned what can happen online and that there are many advantages and disadvantages online." They also enjoyed participating, "I enjoyed coming up with ways to prevent or overcome the disadvantages, and it was nice to do it together with others".
